Color Theory:
Understanding Its Role in Design
Color theory is a fundamental aspect of design. It helps artists and designers understand how colors interact and lays the foundation for every branding decision.
The color wheel – a concept that is taught in the earliest of art classes – informs a designer and helps to develop their road map for each unique brand. In conversations with clients, a good graphic designer will ask about the colors they like to get the right vibe. From there, they will employ color theory related to primary, secondary, and tertiary color schemes. They may even explore complementary, analogous, and triadic colors, with the aim of evoking a specific emotion or reaction.
By leveraging color theory, designers can create visually appealing and cohesive designs that enhance the overall aesthetic experience for viewers.
If your brand designer isn’t interested in your colors, find a new designer.
